Some time ago, FIFI4MARINE in partnership with ZERO EMISSION SERVICES offered a solution to support inland shipping. This secure solution consists of interchangeable energy containers (called ZESpacks), charging infrastructure and a simple pay-per-use payment system. With this solution, M.S. de Alphenaar, is the first vessel to use interchangeable energy containers for electric propulsion.
Barges have power ratings ranging from 500kW to 1000kW. Using a two ZESpacks on board, a distance of 60 to 120 KM can be covered. And that without emissions.
The battery containers are loaded with green energy and the electric powertrain on the ship ensures that no CO2, nitrogen and particulates are emitted. In the process, a ZES ship produces virtually no noise. Control systems in the container and on board ensure that batteries cannot be overloaded. Cooling systems ensure that the temperature remains constant inside the container. The container itself is fireproof due to insulation, among other things, and is equipped with extinguishing and safety systems. Even if there is a fire outside, the container remains safe!
It will sail with two ZESpacks on board and exchange containers at the first loading station at Alpherium, CCT's container terminal in Alps on the Rhine.
FIFI4MARINE ensures the safe storage and operation of these battery systems by installing a fire extinguishing system for Lithium Ion batteries in the container. This makes the solution safe ashore, at the loading dock and on the barge.
