advanced extinguishing systems for:

HySeas III

HySeas III

A European-funded hybrid ferry ship for pedestrians and cars, the HySeas III, is the world's first zero-emission sea-going ferry. The vessel is powered by hydrogen from renewable sources combined with already proven hybrid electric propulsion systems. It was built at an onshore facility near Bergen, Norway.

With the Scottish government as one of the principals, a consortium of several parties started working together. They are Arcsilea LTD, Ballard Power Systems Europe, Caledonian Maritime Assets, Deutsches Zentrum Fur Luft-Und Raumfahrt, European Ferry Company, Interferry, Kongsberg Maritime, McPhy Energy and Orkney Islands Council.

The hybrid ferry vessel is equipped with a 4 rack Lithium Ion battery system and needed to be fitted with a fire extinguishing unit. They found the solution at FIFI4MARINE and they supplied them with a 450-litre fire extinguishing unit.
Allows, when the Lithium Ion battery goes into Thermal Runaway, the fire immediately be extinguished.

This protects the passengers, crew and, in addition to the batteries not involved, the hydrogen tanks and the ship.
