Grimaldi opts for innovation and safety with advanced battery extinguishing system from FIFI4MARINE
Grimaldi, a leading cruise line in the Mediterranean, is taking a big step in sustainability and safety! To meet the strictest environmental requirements, eleven (11) of its ships are equipped with powerful Lithium Ion batteries, allowing them to enter and exit ports completely electrically.
This greatly reduces emissions of CO2 and other harmful gases. Especially in a port, more of a cruise ship's power is expected. Both when docking the ship and leaving the dock. Once on the open sea, limited amount of fossil fuel can be consumed on a "cruise speed" basis. The Grimaldi Barcelona is 238 metres long, 34 metres wide and 67,311 gross tonnage. The Barcelona has a capacity of 500 truck trailers and 180 passenger cars.
But innovation demands the highest safety standards. That is why Grimaldi's shipyard engaged FIFI4MARINE to equip these ships with a state-of-the-art extinguishing system.
This extinguishing system immediately detects possible fires in the batteries and immediately switches to extinguishing, reducing damage and allowing operations to resume quickly. It protects crew and passengers. The battery racks have a total capacity of 5MWh. With this investment, Grimaldi underlines its commitment to a green future as well as maximum safety for its passengers and crew. Safe, sustainable and innovative.
The Grimaldi Eco Barcelona has 411 en-suite indoor and outdoor cabins and about 70 luxury suites. The ship is also equipped with around 150 seats.
The Grimaldi Eco Barcelona sails between Barcelona in Spain to Civitavecchia in Italy, Barcelona to Porto Torres, a town in the Italian province of Sassari in north-western Sardinia.
