CGN SA is a company based in Switzerland.
It is engaged in developing and exercising activities related to the operation of a fleet. It does this by providing attractive services along the shores of Lake Geneva.
It provides transport and services with the aim of contributing to the sustainable development of tourism in Lake Geneva by ensuring attractive services along its shores. This includes operating a modern and historic fleet of boats on the lake.
To transport passengers on Lake Geneva, CGN SA has commissioned Shiptec shipyard to develop and build innovative ferry vessels. The vessels in question are Naviexpress 1 and Naviexpress 2.
Naviexpress 2 was later renamed the Thonon Les Bains.
This vessel is propelled by a hybrid engine which reduces the burden on the environment. It consumes 35 to 40% less energy than current boats. It involves 2 x 920 kW main engines with highly efficient parallel hybrid/diesel electric propulsion system (2 x 300kW). Navigation up to 25 km/h is done in all-electric mode, generating no pollutants, CO2 or noise around jetties. The Thonon Les Bains has a capacity of 700 passengers. To ensure safety, CGN asked for a fire extinguishing system from FIFI4MARINE to be implemented.
Because in case of a battery fire, Thermal Runaway, to start extinguishing with foam immediately after detection, the fire is extinguished immediately.
At short intervals, just in case, the fire is post-extinguished so that any restart of the fire is prevented. This protects passengers and crew. Only the affected batteries are extinguished. The remaining uninvolved batteries are thus also spared and can be used to get the ship safely to port. After the calamity, service to tourists and commuters from home to work can be quickly resumed. This minimises disruption to the operation of the service provided.
